South Setauket, NY

The release of Marie Kondo’s book “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing” started an intense, take-no-prisoners approach to decluttering. But for those who want to tidy up and declutter using a more moderate approach, Jefferson’s Ferry is welcoming Judy Torre from Senior Service Assistants on Long Island to present “Discard, Donate or Destroy: What to do with what you no longer need.”

This free, interactive program is scheduled for Thursday, March 14 at 2 p.m., at Jefferson’s Ferry, located One Jefferson Ferry Drive, South Setauket, New York.  Space is limited and reservations are required by calling (631) 253-8585.

During the program, Torre will share tips for managing sorting sessions in your kitchen, pantry, bedroom and office and explain the OHIO (Only Handle It Once) rule. She’ll talk about the art—and rules—of regifting, and advise how to take special care of financial documents, including bank statements, bonds, IRS and loan documents, and receipts.

Torre is a member of the National Association of Senior Move Managers and has provided downsizing tips and assistance to hundreds of individuals and couples moving to retirement communities from their longtime family homes. She’ll share the story of a former client, Thora Wagner, who used her methods to sort through a houseful of memories and belongings. Torre and Wagner will both welcome questions.
